HARMONY BASS GUITARS

Harmony made some really nice bass guitars through the years. They may not be the best balanced, or the best looking, but they have a very good vintage sound that is very hard to beat!

I receive many emails from pro players who use these bass guitars as their main axe!

Great News!

Harmony's Beautiful H27 Bass Guitar with 2 DeArmond Pickups

Note the Flame Maple Top

Models H27 and H25

These were Harmony's best bass guitars. They have two pickups and have great tone. The hardware is heavier and they are better balanced than the H22 models. The Hollowbody is a great Jazz bass.

The solidbody is considered to be a Silhouette model and was direct competition to the Fender Precision Bass.

Harmony H22 & H22/1 Bass Guitars

H22/1 Bass Guitar.

The difference between an H22 and an H22/1 bass is the cutaway design. The H22 is a single cutaway while the H22/1 is a double cutaway.

The following group of pictures was sent to me by David Dennard dragonst@flash.net of his great Harmony H22/1 Bass Guitar.
It was because of David that the bass case plans were developed. Thanks David!

This picture shows a nice original Harmony H/22

Look closely and you will notice the model and serial number stamp inside the body. Also, the original bridge is somewhat compensated. One last thing, the rotary knobs have yellowed with age while the handle type knob has retained its white color. This is common due to the differences in the chemical makeup in the knobs.

David obviously takes great care of his bass, hard to believe this bass is as old as it is!

A great view of Harmony's classic burst type finish

Technical Tip

Lubricate the tuning machines at regular intervals, especially on the H22 and H22/1 models. This will not only make the machines perform better, but it will keep them from breaking or wearing out for a considerable time. Use a good light weight machine oil.

Harmony H22 Bass
These models have a split pickup. One setting gives you vintage treble sounds and the other gives you a good rich bass sound. It is really like having two separate pickups. These models record very well and give you the "almost gut string bass" sound. Anyone into vintage music needs to hear one of these models!

The weakest point in the design of the H22 and H22/1 was the use of light duty tuning machines. Most hold up real well but it looks strange having such small tuners on a bass!

These guitars are going up in value as I see them sell on ebay for up to $425.00

Technical Tip

When storing your bass guitar for long periods, release the tension of the strings. This will keep your guitar from developing any stress problems. Also, if you are shipping your guitar UPS, US Mail ,Fed Ex etc.....loosen the strings! It will really pay!

NOT ALL MODELS ARE DEPICTED ON THESE PAGES BUT MY RESEARCH GOES ON.........
